Let us just be honest, we love our dear parents and would love to always have their clothes next to us so that we feel close to them. Its very understandable, but I have seen people stuck with a pile of parents clothes which they cannot give away or even wear sometimes. This next vest is one of those. What I loved the most about this vest was the 80s paisley print it had. To be honest, it brought back some of my earliest memories as I remember many women had this specific print with puffy sleeves from the 90s movies. And when I saw it, I knew that we were gonna create something timeless and awesome, it clearly comes from the 80s, Grandpa’s vest has to go through resuscitation if it is to survive being in our closet. #sustainability #minimalism
So guess what came to my mind immediately!!!!!, I imagined this King from the 16th Century when men wore a vest over a long sleeved shirt. I was happy to find my inspiration.

So I started playing around on the mannequin, I wanted something modern, very personalised and still maintaining its vest functions.

I started by taking off fabric from the side as it was very big, following the shape on the mannequin. Then I reduced the length at the lower hem, so that I achieve the puffy effect that I had in mind.

I had a left over piece that from the bottom, I decided to add a detail using that piece to make it more modern and younger.

After this I started finishing the end with an inner seem which I finish with some hand stitching.

In the next photo, I finished the side detail with pressing and using the blind stitch to make it look professionally finished.

And here is me in the vest, the modern day grandpa vest. This is another example to show that you can always up cycle and be unique, save money and have meaningful, timeless clothing.
