From Nothing to something. Cycle One

Up-Cycling project One

As being a spectator for sustainability, I have to practice what I preach. In doing my part as a designer, my angle is up-cycling and preventing the need to buy new while ignoring the valuable old even when we do not need the new. As i mentioned in my previous blog as to why we should be sustainable in fashion, the reduction of the need to buy new goes a long way towards reducing excessive production and hence less raw materials, less carbon emissions. With that I present my first cycle of this new found profession of mine. I would like to thank https://www.instagram.com/linda_la_moda for taking a chance on me and giving me her clothes to be remade and be my first client.

This jersey Spaghetti top was old and long overdue for a makeover. I did not know what do with it and then I went to Pinterest for some inspiration, I was amazed to see the many options jersey could present.

I was inspired buy neck pieces from Africa that are made of fabric and realised the only thing this small fabric was good for was a neck piece. So I dismembered the entire piece and played with the shapes that were already existing.

After hand sewing everything, I realised that the pice needed some more uplifting, it looked boring. SO as usual, I went to the broken house (second hand store) and added a little hmph to the piece.
